Short lag time - WHY?

A short lag time (time between the entry due date and the competition date) demonstrates organizational confidence - it says, "Our system has handled and accounted for the entries, we have the manpower and procedures in place to judge the entries, and we're ready to get to it."

Short lag time also translates directly into reduced bottle deterioration time, which many entrants appreciate.

Some entrants have to ship across the country, which may take up to a week.  Add three weeks to that and the disconnect for the entrant becomes severe.  Disconnect is something that competitions should be wary of - it's caused by too much time between entering and finding out the results, and by too much time between the competition and getting results (in the form of score sheets and medals).

The average lag time for most QE's - even some of the very large ones -  is 10 days, and most do even better.  Fourteen days should be the absolute maximum.
