Questions and Answers

I won first place in an MCAB qualifying event, but I don't see my name in the Qualifying Brewers table; why not?

Probably because you won in a category that is not included in the MCAB categories.
Only BJCP categories 1 - 19 and category 20 are eligible for MCAB.

So I've qualified; now what do I do?

Wait till early next year.  The annual finals event typically takes place in February or March of the following year.

How will I know when to enter?

We will start sending reminders around the end of the current year.  Entries won't be accepted until the month or so preceding the finals event, but you will get several reminders and updates before hand.  The only contact info we have for you is from the data that was passed to us by the qualifying events, so if your e-mail address has changed, we won't be able to contact you .  If you don't hear from MCAB by January or so, shoot us an e-mail.

What will be required for entry?

Three bottles will be required for each entry in order to be eligible for category and Grand Master/best-of-show judging (should your beer take first place in its category).  You may send only two bottles, but you won't be guaranteed a shot at being judged for Grand Master/BOS.

Standard brown 12 ounce long-neck beer bottles with no raised lettering or distinctive markings will be required, as will plain caps, either gold or silver in color.  Waivers may be granted when absolutely necessary, but you must request a waiver.  In the future you should use the standard bottles and plain gold or silver colored caps.

In general, expect on-line entry only.  Entry will be made as easy as possible.

The entry fee will be $10 per entry.

What about all the other entry details?

All entry information will be put on the web site as soon as all the arrangements have been made.  You will be notified when it is posted, and reminded several times before the entry deadline.  The full information will be posted at least one month before the entry due date.

Do I have to re-brew my entry for the finals?

No.  You may enter the original beer or you may re-brew it.  For that matter, you can enter another beer, even one from a different subcategory, as long as it is in the base category for which you qualified.  The only requirement is that you enter the same category / categories in which you qualified.

Can I enter other regional qualifying events, or am I restricted to the one closest to me?

You may enter any and all of the qualifying events.

How many times can I qualify?

You may qualify in as many categories as you can.  You could conceivably qualify in all 20 MCAB categories.

You may qualify as many times as you can in a given category, but ...

BUT ... you may only send one entry to the finals  for any given category.
